staff evaluations
Regarding this retreat and your role as a staffer, what worked best for you overall?
-Felt very welcomed as new staffer, glad to be asked to take on specific things like Saltbox
-community, location, (Julia Riseman)
-having many cheerful hands helping and the organization that keeps it all moving so smooth
-kids were really well behaved, a lot of fun
-liked working with kids, having more responsibility and lots of free time
-liked helping out, working with kids and having lots of free time
What didn’t work as well for you? (Was it related to program delivery, leadership, personal limitations, difficulty with theme, human dynamics, the Moon, etc?)
-our small group didn’t gather pre-first group so had to invent program on spot, for this reason and others was not able to be at staff meeting but had to see to kids in cabin
-not much
-nothing here, all is and was well
-think retreat went pretty well, didn’t really find much that didn’t work
-nothing, had great time
-everything was totally awesome
Can you comment on the specific content of what was discussed in your Small Group? Did we reach our goal as it related to our theme?
-told story of Jonah while kids worked on cards, when asked kids what they wanted to share about Gretchen leaving they weren’t talkative but cards showed they understand difficulty of following leading and level of support needed
-service project kits, talked about AIDS Africa, service and gifts god gives up, faith in Action, how kids can make a difference
-(God Calling) children heard stories from each other and staff, music added centering element, we hope they are now familiar with the concept and possibility of receiving a call
-wasn’t in small groups (jr. staffer)
-didn’t have small groups but had homework time which was efficient (jr. staffer)
-didn’t have small group but homework time was good (jr. staffer)
Please comment on the effectiveness and value of our other activities, such as games, trips, free time, interpersonal discussions among children and staff?
-lovely retreat, great balance of free and structured, hike was wonderful, esp. that Mary Fraser was our leader
-warm happy less crazy retreat, like having new young ones
-seeing splishy splashy fun out in soaked lawn, grateful they can play outside in ALL weather
-think the other activities were really nice, think the kids had fun
-liked free time, could relax, really liked JYM ball in the rain, of course dress up
-loved free time, could chill, liked being with kids and playing JYM ball in the rain
Other thoughts and suggestions?
-thought program really did send Gretchen on a spirit held and lovely way, wonderful program planning
-Kevin and Gretchen: you glow the whole weekend and it is fantastic to witness your calling
-really liked staffing, never knew it would be this fun, older staff was kind and helpful, Gretchen-JYM will miss you but we’ll see you in JHYM
-was so cool, never thought staffing would be so much fun, Kevin and Gretchen you guys are the best! Hope to see you Gretchen in JHYM
How do you feel about staffing another retreat with us?
-think one for each program is all I can sanely manage this year but loved being with JYM and look forward to staffing at sessions and again next year
