New England Yearly Meeting
Junior High Yearly Meeting Retreats
2007 - 2008
Sept. 14-16, 2007 @ Westport EXCEPTIONAL FRIENDS
It's a funny thing.....We all make generalizations, judgments and assumptions about others while considering ourselves to be exceptions to 'the rules.' How can we be mindful, courageous and open-hearted enough to more frequently see that of God in every one at JHYM Retreats (and through experience, the rest of our lives)?
Thanks to Grace Churchill for inspiring this theme!
Nov. 2-4, 2007 @ Woolman Hill HONESTY
Honesty is one of the cornerstones of
relationships and community. How does wanting to be kind, well
liked, or out of trouble influence when we either 'just don't say
anything' or speak untruthfully? What does the Society of Friends have
to tell us about speaking truth to ourselves, to each other, and to the
wider world?
Jan. 11-13, 2008 @ Westport SOUND AND SPIRIT
"After Silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music." - Aldous Huxley
This will be our 4th annual music
fest. Everyone brings one piece of music (live or recorded) that
expresses that of God for them and shares it within their small groups.
The wide range of music workshops Saturday afternoon and the spectacular
coffeehouse Saturday evening make this a retreat not to miss!
Feb. 29 - March 2, 2008 @ Wellesley BUMPS in the ROAD
What if God dutifully put up "Bump
Ahead" road signs, reassuring us that what was ahead was just a
construction site and not a cliff? We'll share how we deal with life's
challenges and worries (both big and small), and consider how hope,
prayer, and fellowship help us get through. (AAA PLUS members are
especially urged to sign up for this one!)
May 2-4, 2008 @ Portland FEELING LIGHT WITHIN, I WALK
This Navaho night
chant celebrates, reassures, and challenges us to do our inner work and
then, with trust and courage, gently step forth. In our small group
discussions, active serve work in the Portland area on Saturday
afternoon, and 8th grade Circle of Affirmation, we will nurture and give
thanks to all we are and are yet to be as Children of the Light.
