JYM
Retreats Schedule 2008 - 2009 Program Year

September 19-21, 2008 at Woolman Hill Retreat Center
Theme:
“Faith and Practice”
Unfortunately, the present edition of NEYM’s book of Faith and Practice is
designed for adults to read, not children. We’ll dissect parts of it and explore
what it has to say and why it’s important for Friends of all ages to know
something about it. A committee of Friends is hard at work shaping the next
edition, and just maybe we will have something for the committee to consider
following our retreat! Sign-up begins August 20th.
November
21-23, 2008, at Westport Friends Meeting
Theme:
“Loving Difficult People”
You
know who they are! Every community, school, organization and meeting has
them! How do we find ways to honestly (try to) love people who seem
difficult to deal with? And how might we be part of the problem sometimes? We’ll
explore some practical, Friend-like approaches to this common challenge.
Sign-Up begins October 15th.
January 23-25, 2009 at Wellesley Friends Meeting
Theme:
“If I Could Shape and Mold the World…!”
Okay,
you have the whole world right there in the palm of your hand….go ahead, shape
it and make something special! How would you shape the world? What would you
create from scratch? What would you keep, or not keep? What tools do you need”
who will help you? Our January retreat is also "the Sculpey Retreat" as led by
the fabulous Gretchen Baker-Smith! Gretchen and children, as guided by the
Spirit, will decide how the medium of Sculpey-clay will relate to our theme.
Sign-up begins December 15th.
March 13-15,
2009 at Westport Friends Meeting
Theme:
“Bodyworks”
(This retreat sponsored jointly by JYM and JHYM Retreats. Gretchen Baker-Smith,
co-leader.) Our annual retreat for 6th graders only! A smaller transition
retreat designed just for 6th graders with special games, foods and discussions.
Our “Bodyworks” small group workshop will tenderly and playfully explore what’s
going on with changing bodies and emotions and how to keep these precious gifts
from God, safe. Sign-up is open anytime for this special retreat. Parents are
especially encouraged to speak with Kevin and/or Gretchen in advance to obtain
additional special info regarding this retreat.
May
15-17, 2009 at Woolman Hill

JYM
Retreat “Train” Tune-up!
Our
JYM retreat program (train!) has been rolling along now for over twenty years!
Most of the way we do things seems “just right” to many, but there’s always room
for improvements which helps our retreat community to stay healthy, fun and
spiritual. At this retreat, instead of doing just an evaluation at the end,
we’ll have some fun looking at all the “moving parts” of our Retreat Train to
see how we can make it even better in the future. Bring a sharp pencil and a
magnifying glass (kidding)! We provide the tools! Parents and children are
welcome to offer input well in advance of our “tune-up” weekend.
Sign-Up
begins April 15.
Staff with us! If
you would like to explore what’s involved with staffing JYM Retreats, please
click here, or speak with Kevin. For
additional info about our program and to sign your child up for a retreat,
please visit us online. Thanks!
