RETREAT
"NURSE" CHECKLIST
1.
Please see that meds are properly labeled, in
zip-lock bags and stored in a secure place
(Bags are provided)
2.
Kevin and/or the Registrar will flag important info
that parents inform us about on their child’s Health and Safety Form. Kevin
will usually mention it on a TLC Sheet that goes into your staff notebook.
Sometimes important Health info from parents isn’t known, however, until the
child arrives. In this case, the Registrar will note it on the sign-in sheet and
bring it to your attention. But feel encouraged to ask about it also.
3.
Be aware that parents are expected to fill out a
“Medication Form” upon arriving at the retreat. Hopefully they have placed
their child’s meds into a zip-lock bag as they checked their child in to the
retreat. If you arrive after the check-in process has begun, these forms and
bagged meds should be with the Registrar in a small marked bin. Remember though
that some children, with their parent’s permission, may be opting to
self-dose, which is fine. We do, however, need to have a list of who is taking
what prescribed medication, even if the child keeps their meds within their
possession.
4.
A “Health Forms” notebook is kept for your
review, should you need it, that contains a Health and Safety Form for every
child on retreat, whether or not they have any medical issues or are taking any
prescribed medications. Please consider the information listed on a child's
Health and Safety Form as confidential.
5.
Please store all meds in one place. We usually keep
them on top of the fridge along with the forms.
6.
Round up children to take their meds at the
prescribed times. Know that you are empowered to require children to swallow
their meds in front of you!
7.
Feel encouraged to announce during general
announcements that “those children who are taking medications need to see
me!” It goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway to be clear, that we do
try to honor every child’s right to confidentiality about what they’re
taking and why.
8.
Please inform our cook, (Wendyl) and Kevin of any
food allergies, or, bee sting allergies that you are aware of.
9.
Check to make sure that the First Aid Box and
Health and Safety Forms Notebook travel on field trips with us. If we’ll be
away when a child should be taking their medication, please bring it along also.
10.
Return all meds to children at end of retreat.
Please try to encourage children to actually put them into their backpack for
the trip home! Please note depletions or supplies needed in First Aid box and
give a note about what’s needed to Kevin and/or Gretchen.
11.
This sheet will also be in your Staff Notebook.
12.
Feel free to dish out lots of T.L.C. and Band-Aids!
Thank
you, Friend!
